Colin Schmidt
Colin Schmidt | CEO & Executive Director America SCORES Bay Area Founder (2001-present)
Colin is the founder and Executive Director of America SCORES Bay Area which launched in 2001 at five low-income public schools in the Mission and Bayview Neighborhoods of San Francisco. SCORES now reaches thousands of children throughout the Bay Area with time-tested programs at nearly 100 locations in seven cities.
A native of Colorado, Colin grew up playing soccer in suburban Denver. At Claremont Mckenna College in California, he was student-body president, and majored in PPE, a degree combining political science, philosophy, and economics, a fitting degree for a guy who would later lead an organization leveraging the unusual combination of soccer, poetry, and service to bring greater opportunities and health benefits to families who are unable to pay for sports and enrichment programs.
In 2013, Colin spearheaded the SCORES "asphalt-to-turf" initiative and has transformed twenty unforgiving play spaces into green, safe, and welcoming sports fields.
Prior to launching America SCORES Bay Area at the precipice of the dotcom bust in 2001, Colin worked as a ski patroller in Vail and for the nonprofit Beyond War in Palo Alto; wrote articles for the MesoAmerica Institute in Costa Rica; lead a large competitive soccer club in the Denver area; and worked for the NorCal branch of the Special Olympics.
Colin earned his MBA at the Haas Business school at UC Berkeley, a degree he secured while continuing to lead SCORES and raise three young children with his wife Jenny. He’s the author of several books on coaching and was awarded the “Premier National Diploma” from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. In his spare time, Colin spends time with his energetic family and his devoted dog Cece.
