Dave Rosen connected with America SCORES Bay Area in early 2013. On sabbatical from his marketing position at Electronic Arts and heading out on sabbatical-fueled travel, Dave wanted to start contributing his time to an organization in the Bay Area. He looked into the track records of local nonprofits, specifically ones helping kids at the intersection of education and athletics. “SCORES combined education and athletics plus service learning in such a cohesive way, it just jumped off the page for me,” Dave recalls. The son of teachers, Dave grew up surrounded by the forces of education and writing. His mother taught ESL, and wrote poetry on the side. “It’s something I’ve been adjacent to my whole life,” Dave says. “The ability to express yourself through words is incredibly freeing for people. Witnessing SCORES kids finding their creative voices through poetry is incredibly powerful.” Dave has now relocated to Austin, Texas, and is VP of Marketing at Kingsisle Entertainment. He’s using his professional expertise to help SCORES in marketing and communication efforts. “Over the past few years, we’ve gotten laser-focused on our strategic and fundraising plans and we’re in a place where SCORES can grow at every level. It’s an exciting time.”
