Pete Swearengen
Chief Technology & Information Officer
Pete was born in Mountain View, CA into a family of scientists and engineers, but moved to New Mexico as a young child where his family lived in a largely LatinX neighborhood. It was here that Pete first became enamored of soccer, playing fast-paced pick-up parent-coached games on the dirt fields around Albuquerque with the local community. At eight, he was already into computer programming, a pursuit that later drew him to the games industry.
A self-styled “creative technologist,” Pete joined America SCORES as interim CTO in Spring of 2019. The role was created to build SCORES’ capacity to be a data-driven organization with best-in-class practices for data governance, data management, and learning and evaluation. “I see technology as a set of endless tools, and it's my job to figure out how to make something good out of them,” Pete explains.
Prior to joining SCORES, Pete applied spatial computing and design to a Rockefeller Foundation project called Resilient By Design Bay Area, which focused on anticipating and preparing for climate change, examining community risk, infrastructure, and social and economic impact.
Pete still loves playing soccer, especially on Sunday mornings at Beach Chalet.
