Digital Asset Donations Help Low-Income Youth
This #GivingTuesday, we’re trying something new. We’re using digital assets for good by partnering with BitPay and launching a campaign to accept Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, and Ethereum. For more information, see the first post in this series about our digital currency campaign.
So where do your assets go when you give?
In a literal sense, when you donate through this method your transaction is shown on a public ledger, so you know that the money arrived to our organization in our digital wallet through your digital wallet. Though we do ask for your name when you donate, digital asset transactions are semi-anonymous, meaning that they are public for all to see, but the wallet names are long strings of numbers and letters that are not identifiable unless you know the name already. For example, you can see Bitcoin transactions HERE and Ethereum transactions HERE.
On an organizational level, we have several initiatives that you can specifically support, or you can set the donation as “General” and we’ll put it where it’s most needed. The initiatives are:
After-School Enrichment Programs: These unique programs help students become healthier, more engaged students, and active members of their community.
Asphalt-to-Turf: Our Asphalt-to-Turf program transforms urban spaces into green, safe spaces for students to play. Every $120 donated equals 10 sq. ft. of asphalt to turf.
Endowment: You can contribute to the America SCORES Legacy Endowment. These investments generate operating income year-after-year for the foreseeable future.
But most importantly, when you donate, your gift touches the lives of youth who can benefit in meaningful ways from the support and opportunities provided by America SCORES. This year, we are on track to reach 2,200 students in low-income public elementary and middle schools. Our unique combination of activities has a clear impact in academic, social, and health outcomes.
Did you know that when students go through our program:
98% have increased academic & social confidence
96% school attendance rate
97% show an increase in cooperation & teamwork
90% say SCORES helped boost resilience
84% increased ability to get along with others
92% exercise more
89% improve aerobic capacity by an average of 21%
73% of SCORES students reach the healthy fitness zone
When you build a healthier community, you support future leaders, and in turn, improve your corner of the world. Childhood has no second chances.
